Explore the East Midland’s largest forest, either at ground level or high among the treetops at Go Ape…

With over 3,300 acres to explore, Sherwood Pines is the largest forest open to the public in the East Midlands. It’s a great place for a wide variety of outdoor activities from a relaxed stroll to a Go Ape Tree Top Adventure and much more.

Cycling is particularly popular here, with bike hire available, as a regional centre of excellence with a marked Family Trail, Adventure Trail and the more demanding Kitchener’s Trail. Sustrans Route 6 also goes through the forest and from here you can pick up the cycle network to the wider region.

Children are well catered for, with a short woodland walk to Robin Hood’s hideout, a sand play village and an exciting forest trail featuring familiar characters from the much loved Julia Donaldson story, Zog.

For thrill seekers, there is the opportunity to soar high through the trees on Go Ape’s famous zip wires. It even includes a Treetop Adventure course and one of only two Nets Adventures in the UK – with tree houses, netted walkways and bouncy nets filled with inflatable balls perched 30 feet above the forest floor.

There are events taking place throughout the year and The Forestry Commission regularly hosts open air concerts and performers, attracting big names including the likes of Paul Weller, Tom Jones and Olly Murs to name just a few.

After adventuring the Forest, visitors can also pop into the Sherwood Pines Café  offering a range of locally sourced meals, drinks and snacks.
